The ASTRA Program is a volunteer-led organisation which has been designed to support those at University up to 35 in moving in to a career in Space. It is a nationwide initiative with all the interaction happening online. I have started supported from an industry perspective.
The Program has a number of Papers that are generated by the teams to explore innovative topics in Space.
One such topic is exploring whether Indigenous bush fire management techniques could be supported by Space Earth Observation data.
Topic: How can Australia leverage intersections between earth observation and traditional knowledges to improve bushfire management?
Topic Description: Australia faces increasingly severe bushfire seasons. Between the contemporary earth and ground-based observations systems grounded in STEM, and Aboriginal Australian and Torres Strait Islander knowledge deeply rooted in experience.
Australia has a unique opportunity to merge different approaches to bushfire management to further current bushfire responses while learning from traditional practices.
