2023 Australia New Zealand Leadership Forum

The 15th ANZLF meeting was held in Pōneke Wellington, Aotearoa New Zealand on 18-19 July 2023, and TMCs Managing Director, Murray Saylor who is a member of the ANZLF Indigenous Business Sector Group attended the Forum.

The ANZLF brought together high-level government representatives, business leaders, and policy makers from both nations to participate in critical discussions to advance the Australia-New Zealand economic relationship.

This year the Forum celebrated Forty Years of the revolutionary Australia-New Zealand Closer Economic Relations (CER) Trade Agreement and 80 years of reciprocal trans-Tasman diplomatic relations.

This year’s Forum theme, “Looking to the Future – Forward Together” honours this milestone while also focusing on future opportunities to strengthen the Single Economic Market between Australia and New Zealand so that it will meet the needs of business in the future.

Murray was invited to be a member of the ANZLF Closing Plenary - Economic Outlook Panel which included Hon Grant Robertson, NZ Minister of Finance, Catherine McGrath CEO Westpac, Brad Olsen, CEO Infometrics and ANZLF Emerging Leader, and Hon Warwick Smith AO, Chair of Global Engagement Committee, Business Council of Australia. Murray shared his First Nation perspectives on decarbonisation, navigating the global elephants of trade and stressed the importance of working collaboratively and the inclusion of First Nation business in the region’s economic actions and activities.

TMC Managing Director, Murray Saylor speaks on his experience of the momentous event, “Overall, the Forum was a great opportunity to meet, network and reconnect with whanau (family), government senior executives and other inspiring professionals. I was humbled to share as part of the Panel discussion but wanted to champion the great work and innovation of First Nation businesses and communities domestically and globally. We (First Nation business) should be a active players at the table not just part of the audience”.
